We offer a wide range of services to students from Kindergarten through Senior year of high school and beyond, with a focus on helping the student achieve long-term academic success and being prepared to apply to college. We recommend students seek academic support as early as possible once an area of concern has been identified.
In addition to academic subject tutoring, we provide specialized test preparation services, including: magnet test preparation for MCPS, Catholic high school admissions test, SSAT, and ISEE. For SAT and ACT preparation services, visit the page we have dedicated to these two test prep areas. Our clients also benefit from access to our experienced college counselor throughout high school as they prepare for admissions senior year.
Kindergarten through 8th Grade: It is important to not write off the first years of a child's education, because these are the years where the student gains critical skills, knowledge, and habits. Of most importance, students need to master core skills in math and English, as well as study skills for handling larger commitments in the future. As your child goes from grade to grade, they will find the subjects that interest them, develop relationships with teachers, and eventually realize that college is a real option for them. Everest tutors will not only help your child do well academically through these years but will bring college into the discussion and expose your child to career and educational opportunities.
9th Grade/Freshmen: Many students find the rigor of high school courses and the change from middle school to a larger setting to be overwhelming. With high school classes counting towards the GPA a student will submit to colleges, any academic problems need to be addressed quickly in 9th grade so the student does not fall too far behind or lose the motivation to be successful.
Our advisors can also help develop an action plan for college with you and your student. Your child should also be meeting with their school counselor and involving themselves in extracurricular activities.
10th Grade/Sophomores: Sophomore year brings the first AP classes and more challenging subjects. Selecting the proper level of courses is critical at this point so the student can maintain an A or B average.
Now is the time to start looking at potential colleges. Our advisors will assist you and your child in researching colleges based on your desires, finances, and requirements.
Second semester sophomore year is also the best time to determine which admission test is best for your child. Everest recommends trying both an ACT and an SAT practice test, followed by a personal consultation to determine the best path forward.
11th Grade/Juniors: This is the most important year for your student's GPA. Classes should be challenging but not overwhelming. If a student is struggling in a course, you should take immediate action to help improve their performance or transition to another course.
Juniors should plan to take their first admissions test in the fall or late summer if possible so they can focus on academics and extracurriculars in the spring.
During the year, students should continue researching colleges and start narrowing their list and deciding on a major or career path to pursue so they are prepared to apply to schools in the fall of senior year.
12th Grade/Seniors: This is "go time" for the college admissions process! We can help your student get the requisite teacher recommendations, go through college applications step-by-step, prepare to take final standardized tests, continue the search for scholarships, and help your child prepare for the rigors of a college coursework and exams.
As you can see, there is never a bad time nor a time too early to use the resources available to you through Everest. Give us a call today!
